Netflix cancels GLOW after previously green-lighting a fourth and final season

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling have taken their final bow. In a surprising move, Netflix has cancelled the fourth and final season of the comedy wrestling drama GLOW, despite renewing it last year.

According to a report in Deadline, Netflix decided it was too difficult to continue shooting the final season given the threat of COVID-19, especially on a set requiring lots of close contact between the performers.

“COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW,” series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said in a statement to Deadline. “We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of shitty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again. We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job,” ending their note to fans with a plea, “Register to vote. And please vote.”

GLOW starred Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron. Perhaps the fourth season storyline can live on in the comic series? In the meantime, relieve some of that cancellation angst by watching the best takedowns over the course of the series below.
