Fever Ray brought her highly theatrical, sexually charged sci-fi dance party to MTelus (photos)

Fever Ray (Karin Dreijer) brought out all the stops for her show at MTelus last night, the first Fever Ray show in Montreal in nearly a decade. Touring in support of her sophomore album Plunge, the set was a kaleidoscopic sci-fi fever dream, featuring an all-female backing band, dancers in elaborate outfits (including one in a semi-sumo suit) and a hypnotic, laser-heavy light show, all in support of Dreijer’s queer-positive brand of genre-shifting rebellion music.

The entire 75-minute show was a well-choreographed piece of performance art that was truly unlike any other live show in recent memory. The set was fairly evenly split between her somber self-titled debut and 2017’s more upbeat Plunge LP, with the sexually charged recent single “To the Moon and Back” easily getting the loudest crowd reaction of the night.
