FEAR STREET PART 2: 1978 – Watch the first trailer for the throwback Netflix slasher here

While Fear Street 1994, the first in a trilogy of new Netflix films adapted from the R.L. Stine YA horror series, was a Scream-inspired teen slasher throwback, the sequel is going back even further for another setting very familiar to genre fans. Fear Street Part 2: 1978 focuses on a series of brutal murders at Camp Nightwing, a setting that harkens back to the original Friday the 13th films and the countless camp-set slashers that sprung from that franchise’s success.

Get ready for a bevy of short shorts, and if the brutal first installment is any indication, some of the most creative (and gruesome kills) we’ve ever seen from a Netflix production.

Check out the trailer below.

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 arrives on Netflix on Friday, July 9. The third and final film in the trilogy, Fear Street Part 3: 1666, lands on Netflix on Friday, July 16.

We spoke with Fear Street director Leigh Janiak for the release of her feature debut, the excellent 2016 horror film Honeymoon (starring Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie). You can find that chat here.
