Glenn Danzig may have set out to make a grimy 70s throwback horror flick with Verotika, the bloody anthology he wrote and directed, but he might have unwittingly produced a comedy classic.
When the film premiered at Chicago’s Cinepocalypse festival last summer, it immediately drew comparison’s to Tommy Wiseau’s infamous The Room, a movie so bad and incompetently made that it has since become a beloved cult hit. With a straight-to-video look, stilted acting and gonzo set pieces, including literal blood baths, Danzig was apparently surprised at the audience’s laughter at what he perceived to be his darkly “fucked up” horror movie.
While it may not match the experience of seeing Verotika in the theatre with Danzig himself, you’ll be able to witness the magic at home when Verotika hits VOD on February 25 and arrives in a 3-disc Blu-ray set (including a DVD and a copy of the film’s soundtrack) on March 3.
You can check out the just-released trailer below. Verotika stars Alice Tate, Sean Kanan, Caroline Williams, Cody Renee Cameron, Natalia Borowsky, Rachel Alig, Scotch Hopkins, and porn actress Kayden Kross.
