Long-running underground Musician Daniel Johnston has passed away. According to a report in the Austin Chronicle, Johnston passed away from a heart attack at age 58.
Johnston made a name for himself in Austin as a purveyor of sweet and often heartbreaking low-fi songs that eventually went on to receive acclaim from the likes of Kurt Cobain and Tom Waits.
Johnston’s mental health issues and career were the subject of the 2005 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston.
Rest in peace Daniel.
