Miley Cyrus hosted this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and capped the night off by announcing the immediate online release of a surprise album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.
The 23-song collection was heavily influenced by Flaming Lips, who produced many of the album’s tracks, and whose frontman Wayne Coyne co-wrote a number of songs, including the first single “Dooo It!” Other guests on the album include Big Sean, Sarah Barthel of Phantogram and Ariel Pink.
The trippy collection definitely shows signs of Coyne’s influence, with an overall psychedelic vibe far removed from the pop sheen of 2013’s Bangerz, even as Cyrus proclaims “I’m not a hippie,” on the weed anthem “Dooo It!”
