Slipknot Knotfest Roadshow Review

Slipknot may be the most dependable live band in metal at this point. Whether you’ve been a fan of the masked metal outfit since their self-titled debut way back in 1999 or you’re a recent convert to the maggot life, Slipknot puts on one of the most incredible live shows you will ever see.

The band’s packed show at Montreal’s Bell Center as part of their Knotfest Roadshow with guests Cypress Hill and Ho99o9 was no exception. With enough pyro to give Rammstein a run for the money and a multi-tiered stage that looked like a leftover set from Mad Max: Fury Road, the band delivered a thrilling and LOUD set that touched on all eras of their 20+ year career.

Before the ‘Knot hit the stage, hip-hop legends Cypress Hill took the stage for a lesson in classic West Coast rap. While founding member Sen Dog is resting form surgery and not a part of this tour, frontman B-Real more than held his own alongside percussionist Eric Bobo and DJ Lord (of Public Enemy fame). Running through anthems like ”How I Could Just Kill a Man,” and ”Insane in the Membrane,” they closed out with a cover of House of Pain’s ”Jump Around” that had the swelling crowd doing just that.

The night started off with a quick and frantic set from Ho99o9, who unleashed a heady mix of punk, hardcore, hip-hop and industrial chaos to kick off the show. Showing their hardcore roots, the band performed a faithful cover of the Bad Brains classic ”The Big Takeover,” ending with their singer executing a back-flip that would =make H.R. proud.
