SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS trailer debut: Simu Liu stars as Marvel’s first Asian superhero

Following the recent disappointing news that beloved Canadian sitcom Kim’s Convenience won’t be returning for a sixth season, the show’s star Simu Liu is back in the spotlight with the first trailer for his starring role in Marvel’s upcoming Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.

The film is the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star an Asian actor and feature a predominately Asian cast.

Below is the official synopsis for the film:

Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.

“Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers. David Callaham & Destin Daniel Cretton & Andrew Lanham wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in theatres on September 3, 2021.

Check out the action-packed trailer below. Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings opens in theatres on September 3, 2021. In the meantime, you won’t have to wait much longer for the next chapter in the MCU — Marvel’s Black Widow film starring Scarlett Johansson will open in theatres and premiere on Disney+ (for an extra $30 fee) on July 9.
