Roadrunner trailer: Anthony Bourdain gets an intimate documentary from Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville

Three years after his death, food lover and world traveller Anthony Bourdain is getting an intimate documentary from Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?). Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain chronicles Bourdain’s rise from a New York City chef to an acclaimed author and TV personality who travelled the world in search of the best food and company.

The synopsis from Focus Features reads: “It’s not where you go. It’s what you leave behind. Chef, writer, adventurer, and provocateur Anthony Bourdain lived his life unabashedly. ‘Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain’ is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon. From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, this unflinching look at Bourdain reverberates with his presence, in his own voice and in the way he indelibly impacted the world around him.”

The first trailer for Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain features behind-the-scenes footage of Bourdain’s rise to fame (including some of his own voice-over) and new interviews with friends and colleagues including chef David Chang.

Check out the trailer below. Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain screens as part of the Tribeca Film Festival this June, and opens in theatres on July 16. In the meantime, Bourdain’s posthumous travel book, World Travel: An Irreverent Guide, is available now. Started just before he died, the book also includes anecdotes from his friends and fellow chefs, and even a guide to Chicago’s best cheap eats by famed indie-rock producer Steve Albini.
