Photos: The Damned closed out their 40th anniversary tour at Club Soda with a bang

After postponing their Montreal show twice following guitarist Captain Sensible’s stage tumble earlier this month in Toronto, UK punk / goth legends The Damned finally wrapped up their 40th (!) anniversary tour at Club Soda on Thursday night.

The Damned have moved through quite a number of genres over the years, and nearly all aspects of the band’s wide-ranging discography were represented at this tour closer, from the raw punk attack of 1976’s classic “New Rose,” to the lush rock of “Generals,” off the band’s divisive 1982 Strawberries LP.

The band seemed to be in great spirits throughout the night, offering up 20+ career-spanning tracking tracks during their nearly two-hour set, including a pair of encores. It was a generous set that demonstrated how aptly the band has been able to weave in and out of numerous styles over the years, without ever abandoning their sense of boundless experimentation.

Below you can check out photos from the night courtesy of Cecile Lopes, including openers The Bellrays, who nearly stole the night with their booty-shaking mix of soul and garage rock (we unfortunately missed locals Police des Moeurs). For all upcoming shows visit officialdamned.com.
