Six months after playing the now seemingly impossibly small Quai des Brumes, 60’s soul torchbearer Leon Bridges returned to Montreal last night for a sold-out show at the Corona Theatre.

Supported by a firecracker five piece band and an incredible backup singer, Bridges transported the capacity crowd back to a time when musicianship and showmanship reigned above all else. With a sound drenched in early 60’s soul and R&B, it would be easy to write Bridges off as a gimmick, but his thrilling live show proved wholeheartedly that he is no nostalgia act. From mournful ballads to full on rave-up dance numbers, Bridges may embody the sound and style of a bygone era, but in a live setting it all feels incredibly immediate and vital.
