Sublime with Rome
Metropolis
November 16, 2016

Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell died a full 20 years ago, but you would never know it from the rapturous reception Sublime with Rome received as they took the stage at Metropolis this past week. With new drummer Josh Freese in tow, the band – which now counts only one original member of Sublime in bassist Eric Wilson – delivered a hits-filled set that offered a potent jolt of ska-punk nostalgia to the hundreds of 30-somethings in attendance.

It’s easy to write Sublime with Rome off as a cover band, but there are obviously fans thrilled to hear tracks like “Santeria” and “Date Rape” live, and the band performed them so tightly that you might as well have been listening to your beaten up 40 Ounces to Freedom CD from middle-school. Rome Ramirez does sound eerily similar to Bradley Nowell, and if anyone is going to be touring singing Sublime songs live, it’s hard to think of a better frontman than Ramirez.

Below you can check out photos from the night, including openers The Skints, courtesy of Jason Hughes. For all upcoming tour dates, be sure to visit Sublime with Rome’s official site.
