Montreal Jazz Fest expands to Verdun with a lineup of killer free shows

Golden Dawn Arkestra will play a free show in Verdun on July 6th.

Earlier this year, the organizers behind the International Montreal Jazz Fest announced that they would be expanding into Verdun as part of an ongoing initiative to bring the festival to areas outside of the traditional downtown Montreal core, and now the full lineup for the Verdun series has been revealed.

From June 27 through July 6, the festival will showcase three acts per day, with slots at 5, 7, and 9 pm. The free outdoor stage on Wellington, facing the De L’Église metro, will feature a variety of local and international acts, including The Brooks, SUUNS, U.S. Girls, Golden Dawn Arkestra, Kenyan rapper Muthoni Drummer Queen, New Orleans’ Indian funk band Cha Wa, and many more.

The electric lineup definitely skews younger than the traditional outdoor Jazz Fest shows, which may be a way for the festival to reach new audiences who may not want to trek out to the tourist-heavy large outdoor shows in the city core.

Check out the full lineup for the Verdun shows below. The lineup for the Jazz Fest indoors shows is here. Stay tuned for the lineup for the free downtown shows.
