Montréal en Lumière’s Nuit Blanche to feature a free, overnight David Cronenberg marathon

Although Montréal en Lumière has yet to unveil the details for their annual all-night Nuit Blanche event, Cinémathèque Québécoise has announced their addition to the festivities – a free, overnight David Cronenberg marathon! While the rest of the city is off freezing themselves silly at an all-night skating rink, or waiting in a never-ending queue for a novelty 1am museum visit, you can submit yourself to a 5-hour marathon of Canadian director David Cronenberg’s earliest low-budget horror flicks.

Renowned for his unsettling body-horror films including Videodrome and The Fly, this marathon focuses on 3 of the director’s earliest works; Shivers (1975), Rabid (1977), and Scanners (1980). As an added bonus to cinephiles, the theatre is promising that all titles will be screened from rare 35mm prints. Be sure to arrive early for Shivers, the first film of the marathon, which was filmed in Montreal’s own Nun’s Island. The marathon begins at 11:00pm, and should run until nearly dawn, the perfect time of the day to cleanse your senses from a 5-hour Cronenbergian assault. You can check out trailers for each film below.

The David Cronenberg marathon runs as part of Montréal en Lumière’s Nuit Blanche festivities, February, 28 at 11:00pm at Cinémathèque Québécoise (335 Boulevard de Maisonneuve Est). Admission is free. For more information visit the theatre’s official site. Montréal en Lumière is set to announce their full slate of Nuit Blanche activities in February.
