This past Tuesday I had the great fortune to shoot one of the greatest punk bands of all time – D.O.A.
Joey “Shithead” Keithley brought the latest incarnation of D.O.A. (Paddy Duddy on drums and Mike Hodsall on bass) to Katakombes and tore through a tight set of classics as well as a couple of songs from their latest album, Hard Rain Falling (http://www.suddendeath.com/).

I’ve seen many incarnations of D.O.A. over the past fifteen or twenty years and have never been disappointed. Keithley’s current bandmates certainly bring great energy and talent to the stage. The trio’s chemistry seems strong.

The size of the crowd was disappointing (or pretty good for a Tuesday?) but this didn’t seem phase the band at all. They played with intnesity and passion, two things that D.O.A. always bring to their shows, regardless of who happens to be backing Keithley’s deep, barking vocals (on a side note, his vocals have held up amazingly well, considering both his singing style, as well as how long he’s been at it).
One of the highlights of the set for me was their brilliant cover of Stiff Little Fingers’ classic “Alternative Ulster”; most of the crowd seemed to agree.
Any fan of of punk would do well to catch these guys live. There are precious few bands out there with the ability and the passion to do what D.O.A. does.
