After two seasons for YouTube Red, The Karate Kid spinoff series Cobra Kai will crane kick its way to Netflix on January 1, 2021.
Cobra Kai follows Karate Kid characters Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) 30 years after the pair famously faced off in the original film. While the first two seasons of the show primarily focused on the duo’s strained relationship and Johnny’s efforts to revive the ruthless Cobra Kai dojo, the upcoming season has the pair teaming up against former Cobra Kai sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove), who has seized control of the dojo from Johnny.
The season 3 trailer also reveals the addition of some familiar faces from the franchise, including Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto), the antagonist from The Karate Kid Part II, as well as the return of Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita), Daniel’s love interest from the second film.
While Cobra Kai was met with favourable reviews when it launched on YouTube’s premium service in 2018, the series become a buzzworthy hit when it landed on Netflix this past year (so much so that a season 4 order of the show has already been announced).
