Bad Feeling Magazine Podcast #3 with Andrew W.K.!

For the third episode of our podcast, we snagged the one-and-only Andrew W.K.!

Andrew was on a small Canadian run of dates based off of last year’s “Party Messiah” tour, which is essentially Andrew with a keyboard, drum machine, and the services of a backup singer and general hypeman.

The show, at Foufounes Electriques, was a glorious mess of a night, with soaring beach balls, drunken crowd surfers, and Andrew’s seemingly inexhaustible energy. “This is not a show, this is a party!” he exclaimed early on in the night, and that was definitely what it felt like.

I caught up with Andrew after his set, closing in on around midnight. If anything, Andrew was as intense in this interview as he was on-stage, although his energy seemed to be turned more inward. One thing is clear with Andrew though; the persona you see on-stage is no “schtick”. Even after the show, sweating backstage, he still shook his head emphatically when I asked about the Andrew W.K. “persona” – for Andrew, there is no distinction between the man and what you see onstage.

We only had a limited amount of time for this interview, but we managed to cover his current tour, his participation in Blitzkrieg, his side-project with Marky Ramone, his upcoming Party Bible book, and his close relationship with Montreal.

Check it out via the embedded media player below, or right-click and “save as” here: Episode 3: Andrew W.K.
