Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was a surprise box office smash this year, one half of the Barbenheimer phenomenon that saw audiences selling out theatres around the world when it opened the same day as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie this past July. Nolan’s enthralling biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the birth of the atom bomb is now available on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, allowing audiences to revisit the dense and unnerving 3-hour saga with the opportunity for the occasional bathroom break.
Starring Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, Nolan delivers an enveloping look into Oppenheimer’s psyche, the events that ultimately led to the creation of the atomic bomb, and the post-war consequences for Oppenheimer. Filled with strong supporting roles from the likes of Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, and scene-stealing appearances from Matt Damn and Robert Downey Jr., Oppenheimer is in some senses a traditional biopic but filtered through Nolan’s fascination with puzzle-box-like time constructs.
Nolan has always been a champion of the theatrical experience, releasing his films in a multitude of editions for the best possible viewing depending on your local theatre’s setup. Oppenheimer was released in theatres in a gorgeous full IMAX presentation, and Nolan has taken strides to endure this new 4K UHD version of the film has been optimized for the best home viewing conditions.
Featuring a beautiful 4K presentation of the film and a rollicking DTS-HD soundtrack, the Oppenheimer 4K release also features hours of bonus material on the included Blu-ray disc.
