M. Night Shyamalan makes a welcome return to the big screen with the upcoming horror film Old. Set on a mysterious island where a family begins aging incredibly quickly, reducing their entire lifespan to one day, Old looks a return to Shyamalan’s twisty thrillers like The Sixth Sense and 2015’s underrated The Visit.
Based on the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters, Old features a crawling cast including Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Alex Wolff, Abbey Lee, Aaron Pierre, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Embeth Davidtz, Emun Elliott, and Kathleen Chalfant.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Shyamalan revealed that the fantastical movie has its origins in a very personal place. “My father’s very old right now,” explains Shyamalan. “He has dementia. He comes and goes. And the kids are now directing and singing concerts and, you know, when did this happen? So I made a movie about that feeling.”
Old opens in theatres on July 23, and we have a handful of double passes to a special advance screening on Wednesday, July 21, 7:00 PM at Cinéma Cineplex Laval. Head to our Facebook page for your chance to win.
