The Suicide Squad trailer showcases James Gunn’s R-rated super-villain action

After making a huge splash with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, director James Gunn is headed to the other side of the aisle with The Suicide Squad, his first foray into the DC universe.

Scheduled for release in theatres and on HBO Max on August 6, the just-released trailer shows off Gunn’s R-rated super-villain mayhem with the likes of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), and Peacemaker (John Cena) joining up with a group of convicts from Task Force X as they travel to South America to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory used to conduct human experiments.

The film is a sequel to David Ayer’s much-maligned Suicide Squad from 2016 (and includes many of the same characters) but is described as a stand-alone sequel.

The Suicide Squad also stars Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Sylvester Stallone, and Viola Davis.
