RIP: Canadian screen icon Christopher Plummer dead at 91

Christopher Plummer in KNIVES OUT.

Canadian acting legend Christopher Plummer has died at 91, according to his family.

Plummer is best known for his role as Captain George Von Trapp in 1965’s classic The Sound of Music and won an Oscar for 2010’s Beginnings, making him the oldest actor to win an Oscar. Plummer was also nominated for Oscars for The Last Station and Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, where he was brought in at the last minute to reshoot Kevin Spacey’s scenes after they were cut following Spacey’s sex-abuse allegations.

Plummer recently starred in Rian Johnson’s crime comedy Knives Out, playing the patriarch whose death sets off the wild familial back-stabbing and in-fighting throughout the film.

Born in Toronto in 1929 and raised in Montreal, Plummer worked in the theatre in both English and French before appearing in productions in London and New York. His career lasted nearly 70 years, encompassing work in the theatre, TV, and film. Rest in peace.
