Montreal’s Mothland booking agency represents some of the best psych-rock/noise acts from this province and around the globe, putting on a slew of shows per year (when live events were still a normal occurrence), as well as annual festivals like Distorsion Psych Fest and The Taverne Tour, where their acts take over small bars and makeshift live spaces in the Plateau for a raucous 3-day-long party. The agency is showcasing those artists with the release of Sounds From Mothland Volume 1, a new compilation featuring 15 boundary-pushing acts.
Available digitally and via a limited-edition cassette with a design from Paul Jacobs (also featured on the comp) and featuring “a mystery “arts and crafts” insert from Elie Chap,” the compilation includes tracks from Atsuko Chiba, UUBBUURRUU, Birds Of Paradise, Yoo Doo Right, Red Mass, VICTIME, Crabe, Black Legary, Spaceface (featuring Jake Ingalls of Flaming Lips), and more.
Stream the entire compilation below, and order the limited-edition cassette via the Mothland store.
In other Mothland news, while the 2021 edition of the Taverne Tour has been scuttled, the festival will return in February 2022, when life will hopefully be back to some sense of normalcy.
