Canada’s long-running LGBTQ+ film festival image+nation 33 is going digital this year, with a greatly expanded lineup of titles available to viewers across Quebec (Quebec films will be accessible to audiences across Canada).
This year’s lineup includes 37 features, 16 documentaries, and double the number of short films from last year’s edition. The festival’s stated goal is to make “queer stories a part of everyday life in meaningful and empowering ways through various productions of all ages, all colours, all genders, all sexual orientations and all backgrounds.”
Broken down into thematic sections including Histoire LGBTQ+ / The State of Our Queer World, Voix émergentes / First Voices, and UNE QUESTION DE GENRE, this year’s lineup features a strong emphasis on Quebec filmmakers while incorporating films from across the globe, including works from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Lebanon, and Kazakhstan.
We can highly recommend Emma Seligman’s hilarious Shiva Baby (read our review here) and look forward to checking out Sarah Fodey’s SEX, SIN & 69 documentary, Assel Aushakimova’s Welcome to the USA, a feature about the dangers of being queer in Kazakhstan, and many more.
The full lineup and ticket can be found here. Check out a selection of trailers from this year’s lineup below. image+nation 33 runs from November 19 – December 6, 2020.
