Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter in a new limited-series from Showtime

Eight years (!) after Dexter wrapped with a controversial ending, Michael C. Hall will return as Miami’s vengeful killer in an upcoming limited-series from Showtime. The show is expected to begin filming this winter and will air on the network in 2021.

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” Showtime president of Entertainment said in a statement on Wednesday. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that [executive producer] Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”

Dexter ran from 2006 to 2013, and quickly gained cult status for Hall’s conflicted portrayal as a man who aided the Miami PD by day, and methodically killed “deserving” individuals by might.

Without delving into spoilers, the ending of the finale episode drew ire from viewers who lambasted its quick wrap-up of the series. We’ll see soon enough if this new limited-series gets it right and does Dexter justice. Get the plastic tarps ready!
