Listen: SUNNS share new track “BREATHE” feat. Jerusalem In My Heart off upcoming FICTION EP

Montreal trio SUUNS (Ben Shemie, Joe Yarmush, and Liam O’Neill) has shared a new track off their upcoming FICTION EP, due on October 30 via Secret City Records/Joyful Noise Recordings. “BREATHE” is an entirely instrumental track featuring Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart).

“Typically when we work together, the process is slow and exploratory, but in this case Moumneh had a specific form in mind, functioned as band director, and the song came together quickly,” says Liam O’Neill. “We all sat around one microphone playing acoustic guitars (this is probably the least on-brand thing SUUNS has ever done) over a drum loop. The real flavour of this jam comes from the Boss HC-2, a dedicated hand clapper, which Moumneh insisted had to be played very fast, relentlessly, the whole time.”

The band will preview the upcoming EP in an advance listening party on Friday, October 9th at 5 pm EST via the Joyful Noise Recordings YouTube page, where they will introduce the record and answer fan-submitted questions.

For the next 48 hours (October 7-8), SUUNS will be donating the proceeds of Fiction pre-orders to Basmeh and Zeitooneh Relief and Development to support the continuing efforts surrounding the 2020 Beirut explosions. “Through Moumneh we’ve had the privilege to visit and play in Beirut, a city of resilience and electricity, whose spirited people have become our enduring friends,” explains Ochloe legrand’Neill. “We’ve been touched by the warmth of the people and changed by the depth of the music. Our love for it is deep, and so it was beyond heartbreaking to witness the tragic destruction of August 4, 2020, and the suffering that persists even as the news media moves on. This is our small way to remind you to keep Beirut in your thoughts and to say to Beirut that we love you.”
