Two men arrested in the murder of Run-D.M.C.’s Jam Master Jay

18 years after his murder, U.S. federal authorities have charged two men in the shooting of Run-D.M.C. DJ Jam Master Jay.

According to a report in the New York Times, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. were indicted on murder charges while engaged in drug trafficking. Jam Master Jay (real name Jason Mizell) was shot in a Queens recording studio by two masked men in 2002. According to the Times, “investigators believe Mr. Mizell was involved in the finances of the drug-trafficking operation,” and a dispute leg to his murder.

Ronald Washington is currently serving a sentence for armed robbery, and Karl Jordan Jr. (who was imprisoned for shooting Mr. Mizell’s nephew) was arrested on Sunday.

Federal prosecutors are expected to hold a press conference today (August 16) to detail the arrests. More as this story develops.
