Simple Plan has split with bassist David Desrosiers after sexual assault allegations came to light this week, the band and Desrosiers announced via separate statements this morning.
“We will, as a band, take time to pause, reflect and put in place guidelines to prevent similar situations from happening,” the band posted on Instagram.
The allegations against Desrosiers were shared on the Instagram account Victims Voices Montreal, which was established this week to provide “a voice and safe platform to those who have felt danger, shame and invalidation in regards to their trauma at the hands of others.” The account has amassed over 45,000 followers in three days, with posts detailing abuse by a number of Quebec artists including Bernard Adamus and Yann Perreau (both of which were dropped by their record labels this week).
Quebec’s helpline for victims of sexual assault is available 24 hours a day at 1-888-933-9007.
