Filmmaker Ted Geoghegan examines unheard Hollywood stories on This is Not a Story About… radio show

A few weeks into the pandemic quarantine, it became something of a reoccurring social media joke for people to threaten to start a podcast with all their newfound free time. Filmmaker and publicist Ted Geoghegan (writer/director of Mohawk and We Are Still Here) made good on that notion and actually did create one — This is Not a Story About…, an exhaustively-researched show focusing on the people (and even animals) behind some of the most iconic figures and moments in Hollywood history.

Like a cross between an in-depth NPR report and Karina Longworth’s You Must Remember This podcast about classic Hollywood, each episode of Geoghegan’s show focuses on one underreported Hollywood story in a focused chunk under 30-minutes long. Produced and sound designed by filmmaker Adam Stovall, the episodes retain the feel of an old-time radio broadcast but never get in the way of the revealing stories Geoghegan uncovers.

The first episode focuses on the legendary Walt Disney, but as the title of the show suggests, the story is not focused on Disney himself, but rather the little-known cartoon character he created pre-Mickey Mouse known as Oswald The Lucky Rabbit. Subsequent episodes explore stories surrounding Bruce Lee, Bela Lugosi, MGM Studios, and most recently, the 1980 slasher Friday The 13th
