Fresh off directing the final episode of The Mandolorian for Disney+ and his recent Oscar win for JoJo Rabbit, Taika Waititi will return to a galaxy far, far away to direct and co-write an upcoming Star Wars film for theatrical release. The film will be co-written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who was nominated for a screenwriting Oscar this past year for her work on 1917.
In other recent Star Wars news, Lucasfilm recently announced that Emmy-nominated writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) will helm a new series set in the Star Wars universe for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the upcoming series.
Finally, the first chapter of the 8-part behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of The Mandalorian just hit Disney+ today. Check out a trailer for that below.
Release dates haven’t been announced for either the Taika Waititi film or Leslye Headland’s show yet, but it’s great to see that the Star Wars universe will be in such good hands in the future. May the 4th be with you!
