Quebec asks for all festivals to be cancelled until the end of August
Earlier this week Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante ordered that all cultural and sporting events be cancelled until July 2 due to the spread of COVID-19, and today Quebec has extended that deadline through to August 31.
That new timeline means mega outdoor festivals like Osheaga, ÎleSoniq, the inaugural Lasso festival, Montreal Pride, and the Fantasia International Film Festival, among many other events, will likely be postponed or canceled.
According to a press release issued by the government this afternoon, “…it is considered preferable to cancel festivals and other cultural and sporting gatherings, indoor and outdoor, for the summer period.”
Stay tuned for details on the standing of specific festivals in the coming days. It’s unclear if this also means all club shows are cancelled until August 31 as well, but concert promoter evenko just announced that they will be cancelling all events throughout Quebec until the end of August.
We will update this post with specific event information as we receive it.
