Weezer apologists unite! Stream our playlist of post-Green Album songs that are actually good

It’s not easy being a Weezer fan in 2019. The glory days of The Blue Album and Pinkerton are over two decades behind us, while somehow the band is back on the top of the charts with a non-ironic cover of Toto’s schmaltzy 80’s hit “Africa.” The difficulties of being a diehard Weezer apologist amidst all that Rivers Cuomo and the band have subjected us too over the years even made their way into a surreal SNL skit this season that saw Matt Damon and Leslie Jones screaming about the Matt Sharp vs. Scott Shriner eras of the band (no love for The Green Album‘s Mikey Welsh though).

While we wait for the highly anticipated (?) upcoming Black Album this March, the band continue their trolling campaign unabated, dropping a surprise cover album last night (The Teal Album, featuring their “Africa” take, alongside covers of TLC, Michael Jackson, and more), and even selling limited edition teal velcro wallets (with signed dollar bills, while supplies last!)

Amidst all this insanity, as a long-standing Weezer devotee I am here to make the case that Weezer can still be great, in spite of the often-terrible singles and questionable recent collaborations. In that spirit, dive into our playlist of Weezer songs released after 2001’s The Green Album that are actually good. Check out the playlist below. How did we do? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Viva =W=!
