Academy screeners of Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice, Green Book, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and more leak to torrent sites

Oscar season is in full swing, with the resulting waves of DVD screeners being sent out to members of the Academy Awards for voting consideration. While studios are making efforts to keep these screeners from leaking, from watermarking the physical discs to sending out password-protected screening links, a number of high-profile titles have started to leak onto torrent sites.

The past couple of weeks have seen DVD-quality rips of Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice, The Favourite, Green Book, and Ralph Breaks the Internet land on torrent sites, with pirate group Hive-CM8 claiming that they are only leaking titles after they have made back their budget at the box office.

These leaks are nothing new, but to date they are less severe than in previous years, where films were often leaked before they had even hit theatres (including in 2015, when Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight was leaked online days before its Christmas opening).

To see which of these titles made our year-end wrap-up, check out our list of the Best Films of 2018 here.
