Ministry brought the AmeriKKKant tour to MTelus (photos)

Industrial vets Ministry are currently out touring in support of their new album AmeriKKKant, a blistering attack on Donald Trump and the general greed and stupidity that led to his rise (read our interview with guitarist Sin Quirin here).

Taking the stage alongside a full multimedia display at MTelus on Sunday night, including two gigantic inflatable trump chickens emblazoned with anti-Swastika logos, the band kicked into “Twilight Zone” from the new LP, complete with frontman Al Jourgensen wailing on the harmonica.

While Ministry has always been Jourgensen’s band, on the live front the band are essentially a massive collective now. This current tour includes guest vocalist Burton C Bell (Fear Factory), drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot), DJ Swamp (Beck, the Crystal Method), along with long-time members Sin Quirin and Cesar Soto on guitars, Tony Campos (Fear Factory, Static-X) on bass, and keyboardist John Bechdel (Killing Joke, Fear Factory).

With that amount of people on-stage, the flashing video montages of manipulated Trump footage (not to mention the gargantuan chickens), the entire show felt like an assault on all fronts, in the best possible way. While the new songs were received well, the energy in the room was really kicked up a notch in the final half of the set with the band revisiting classic underground hits like “NWO” and “Thieves,” off 1989’s The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste LP.

Below you can check out photos from the set, along with openers The God Bombs courtesy of Eva Blue. (Chelsea Wolfe’s bus broke down en route and were forced to cancel.) For all upcoming tour dates visit the official Ministry site.
