Photos: Osheaga day 2 (Liam Gallagher, Arkells, Father John Misty, Danny Brown and more)

Osheaga 2017
Île Notre-Dame
August 4, 2017

Under mostly clear skies, Saturday at Osheaga featured a great lineup of eclectic acts, including the long-awaited first Canadian solo gig from Liam Gallagher, a headlining set from somehow-superstars Muse, the utter insanity of Major Lazer, a dapper evening set from Father John Misty, and dozens more.

Some highlights:

Heart-on-sleeve punks Beach Slang offered up a goofy and heartfelt early-afternoon set that featured a bevy of 90’s covers (including the interminable Santana x Rob Thomas joint “Smooth”) alongside their own fist-pumping odes to feeling alive.

Liam Gallagher actually showed up, and in his perfectly-detached rock star fashion ran through a set of Oasis hits and tracks from his upcoming solo album. With arms clasped behind him and draped in a black parka in the 30 degree heat, this was pure rock n’ roll attitude done right.

Hyperactive rapper Dany Brown nearly stole the day with a a wildly entertaining set of electronic-influenced hip hop. Brown was driving the crowd so crazy that even a front-of-stage security guard  was running through the crowd doing the dab.

Father John Misty might as well be the Osheaga house band given how many times he’s performed at the festival, but this felt different than his other early-afternoon sets that always felt like some amalgamation of musical performance and stand-up act. Not to say FJM wasn’t funny (he was definitely the only performer at Osheaga to reference GG Allin), but his latest material off Pure Comedy is more somber, and this performance reflected that. With a small brass section beefing up the sound, this was definitely the classiest act of the day.

Below you can check out photos from the day by Kieron Yates. Photos from Friday’s sets, including Belle and Sebastian, Rag’n’Bone Man, Sampha, Car Seat Headrest and more are here, while our review from Friday is here.
