Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong finally join forces as Armstrongs

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong (no relation, which really confused me in high school) have finally teamed up as the aptly-named Armstrongs, and just unveiled a new single, “If There Was Ever a Time.” The track also features Billie Joe’s son Joey (SWMRS) and Rey Armstrong.

All proceeds for the track will be donated to Gilman Street, the legendary Berkeley, California DIY non-profit venue where countless bands (including Green Day and Rancid) first got their start.

Here’s what Tim Armstrong had to say about the track, which is included in the Turn It Around documentary about East Bay Punk. That film is currently playing in select cities, and will screen at Bar le Ritz PDB on July 25 as part of ’77 Montreal. Tickets for that are available here.

“It was exciting to work on this song with Billie and crew for the film. Stoked to share the tune with everyone out there and to be donating all the proceeds to Gilman which is a place so near, dear and important to us.”

“If There Was Ever a Time” is available on all digital outlets, and also as a limited-edition flexi disc. All versions are available here. Listen to the track below.
