Just over a year after his last headlining Montreal show, Father John Misty, indie-rock’s most dapper frontman, returned to town for a sold-out show at Montreal’s cavernous Metropolis last night.

Still touring behind 2015’s breakthrough I Love You, Honeybear album, Misty (real name Joshua Tillman) split the set evenly between tracks from Honeybear, and 2012’s Fear Fun. Always a consummate showman, Tillman spent the night gyrating and sliding across the stage like a more melancholy James Brown. He didn’t mention Prince’s death just a few hours earlier, but he did pull out a faithful cover of his “favourite love song,” Nine Inch Nails‘ “Closer,” during the encore.

Below you can check out photos from last night’s set courtesy of Jason Hughes. For all upcoming tour dates visit fatherjohnmisty.com.
