Youth Lagoon, aka Trevor Powers, has come a long way since his first Montreal stop back in 2011. At that packed show at Il Motore, Powers remained hunched over his keyboard throughout the night, letting the intimate electro-pop of that year’s The Year of Hibernation speak for itself.

Last night’s show at a sold-out Sala Rossa was an entirely different beast. With a full band in tow, Powers stalked the stage throughout the night, waving his hands wildly like a mad conductor and singing directly at the crowd with a look of intense determination that was nearly impossible to reconcile with his understated performance just a few years back.

Much of the set revolved around the just-released Savage Hills Ballroom LP, whose kaleidoscopic psyche-pop was given some added muscle by Power’s 3-piece backing band.

Below you can check out photos from the night, including openers Moon King, courtesy of Vitor Munhoz. For all upcoming tour dates, visit savagehillsballroom.com.
