Father John Misty brought his I Love You, Honeybear tour to the Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre on February 16th, for a meticulously crafted show before an overjoyed, sold-out crowd. The setlist drew heavily from the new album, which had only been released a week before, yet was still treated as a greatest-hits collection, with fans singing along to the new album’s tracks as if they were old favourites.

Father John Misty is all about the spectacle, and his live show was no exception. He bounced out onto the stage to the new album’s title-track, and immediately ran for the lisp of the stage to grab and clasp hands from the crowd like a seasoned politician. Throughout the next 100 minutes, he sporadically dropped to his knees as if in deep prayer, ran atop the drums, and twirled the mic stand over his head, while ensuring to enthusiastically respond to the strange rumblings from the crowd (“Play a cover!” one yelled early on).

If you couldn’t get a ticket to the show, Father John Misty is one of the 10 confirmed bands for this year’s Osheaga so far. The rest of the line-up will be announced on March 24.

Below you can check out a series of photos from the show, including opener Guy Blakeslee, courtesy of Jason Hughes (http://jasonhughesphoto.com/).
