Obliterations and Sick Feeling played Turbo Haus (photos)

Southern California’s Obliterations are on tour supporting their Southern Lord records debut, Poison Everything, which brought them to Turbo Haus on February 13th with New York post-punks Sick Feeling, and Montreal’s own Mental Fix.

Despite some early technical issues, Obliterations delivered a pummelling set of heavy hardcore thrash, sounding like a cross between Black Flag and Motorhead. Sick Feeling offered up an angular take on post-punk, complete with unpredictable time changes. The band tried in vain to close up the large horseshoe-shaped empty space between the stage and the crowd, with frontman Jesse Miller-Gordon spending most of the set as deep in the crowd as the mic chord allowed him to reach. We only caught the final 30-seconds of Mental Fix, but it’s refreshing to hear a local band channeling melodic and gruff East Bay punk like Crimpshrine and Fifteen. You can check out the band’s 3-song demo here.
