Don’t miss experimental psych-rockers Bear in Heaven on Sunday
With rolling drum lines, full-bodied synth pads and layers upon layers of resonant feedback, Bear in Heaven’s music boasts a spacious, clarion sound. Reminiscent of German experimentalism, psych rock and 1980’s synth pop, the band wavers a fine line between genres – not quite esoteric indie, and not quite elemental pop.
The brainchild of lead singer, synth player and guitarist John Philpot, Bear in Heaven rely on heavy percussive leads, potent electronic melodies, celestial guitar riffs and dreamy vocals that seem to casually float from Philpot’s throat. This four-piece operates between Brooklyn and Atlanta, two very different cities that could seemingly sum up their idiosyncratic sound. Bear in Heaven is psychedelic yet controlled; demure and graceful, yet callous and raucous.
Bear in Heaven play La Sala Rossa on Sunday September 14th with Young Magic & Absolutely Free. $13 / $15, 8:00pm. Tickets are available at www.blueskiesturnblack.com
