It is appropriate that White Lung’s genesis grew in the iconic Vancouver DIY studio and art space The Emergency Room. This four-piece progressive punk band has a heavy reputation, receiving critical acclaim early on starting with their debut album The Evil, leading into their most recent release Deep Fantasy (Domino).
Front woman Mish Way perfectly balances salty and sweet as she spits lyrical fire in her unique take on classic punk vocals; she snarls, drawls heavy, and screams melodiously. Backed by bassist Grady Mackintosh, guitarist Kenneth William and drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou, White Lung’s sound mimics 1980’s hardcore progressions with a contagious, feverish energy. They favourably occupy a neutral space between severe and tender, between bitter and rich. White Lung is a modern creation well worth enduring.
White Lung plays Divan Orange (4234 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montreal) this Friday June 27th, 2014. Tickets are available here.
