Mary Timony channels 70’s Camaro-Rock with Ex Hex

Those of us lamenting the untimely demise late last year of Wild Flag, Mary Timony‘s previous band (she was also in Helium in the 90’s), can halt the mourning process now. Timony’s latest project, Ex Hex, finds the Washington, D.C singer-songwriter joining up with Betsy Wright and Laura Harris for an uninhibited journey into 70’s riff rock.

The trio’s debut EP, “Hot and Cold” b/w “Waterfall” and “Everywhere” is available today on a limited-edition 7″ via Merge, and it’s a banger. Channeling 70’s power-pop and arena-rock in equal measure, the three tracks here feature Timony’s knack for great melodies, buffered by chunky riffs that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Thin Lizzy record.

Take a listen to the first single below. Hopefully we’ll see some Canadian dates once their full length is out later this year.
